Introduction
A successful business' is that business which after being established achieves a break-even point within the shortest possible time. It maintains a going concern status and continually grows its profits. It increases its customer base/awareness and expands its product/services outreach; thereby creating wealth for its stakeholders.
The Requirements
A successful business, therefore, can be achieved by ensuring 3 key requirements are inherent in business leaders.
1 - Good Knowledge
A good knowledge of the business product, its customers, the business competitors, retailers and suppliers in order to ensure that the business is in touch with its environment (demand).
2 - Excellent Financial Recording/ Interpretation Skills
This will lead to an advantageous strategy of evaluating business figures; history, costs, budgets and forecasts, which may be correct or misleading from properly trained or ill trained persons respectively.
3 - Strategic Thinking (Vision)
To support the business goals and objectives its leader must be foresighted with acumen for business success.
Other Equally Important Requirements
All business leaders, owners, workers or staff must possess some or all of these requirements depending on their job functions.
1. Integrity - this should never be compromised.
2. Honesty - like integrity, truthfulness breeds 'sincerity of purpose'.
3. Managing expectations effectively - record expected incomes at its lowest while recording expected expenditures and expenses at its highest cost.
4. Basic computer skills.
5. Team work - working together where every worker or member is an integral part of a group and not an isolated champion.
6. Selecting a good team - be sure the workers are well trained and capable of the tasks to be assigned. In essence, recruit staff based on their strengths and not favouritism.
7. Leadership and Mentoring - Each superior worker must be able to pass the good quality of skills and expertise to his subordinates.
8. Co-ordination - by focusing and refocusing on the business goals, while remaining steadfast at pointing the way to staff/ workers.
9. Emphatic Communication - a categorical or resounding manner of communication definitely gets messages/directives across and ultimately a job is well done.
10. Use problems as opportunities to grow and improve and not as pitfalls.
Conclusion
The foregoing is just a glimpse at what should be expected whenever the subject topic comes to mind. The information here is not absolute as it is possible to extend the list of requirements depending on the experience of a business leader/ owner or the planned needs and focus of a Business itself.
